Dave Wooldridge, Publisher
Dave Wooldridge served as editor of Automotive Rebuilder Magazine from 1983-1999, associate publisher/editor from 2000-2001 and publisher since December 2001. In June of 2001 the magazine was retitled Engine Builder Magazine to focus exclusively on the engine building/rebuilding market.
Overall, Dave has spent nearly 25 years reporting on and working with engine builders and their parts and equipment suppliers to promote and enhance the engine rebuilding aftermarket.
Dave has served on the Production Engine Remanufacturers Association’s (PERA) Technical and Marketing and Convention Planning Committees and also has served as Chairman of PERA’s Statistics Committee. He was presented with PERA’s "Associate Member of the Year" award in 2000.
Dave has also served two stints of duty on the Engine Rebuilders Association's (AERA) Associate Member Council (AMC). In 2005 he was presented with the Engine Rebuilders Association’s Service of Excellence Award. Dave has made several presentations on the engine aftermarket before the National Engine Parts Manufacturers Association (NEPMA), as well as numerous other association and corporate presentations on the engine rebuilding market.
Dave has been an active participant in the Automotive Repower Council since 1998, now known as the Engine Repower Council (ERC), whose purpose is to promote the benefits of remanufactured/rebuilt engines to the consumer. Dave was Chairman of the Engine Repower Council from 2003-2004. He currently serves as an ERC Board member.
Dave graduated cum laude from Kent State University with a degree in Journalism/News. He lives in Tallmadge, OH, with his wife, Randy, and his 18-year-old son, David Jr. Dave’s 22-year-old daughter is currently a senior at Kent State University with a major in Marketing.

Today's engine builders, rebuilders and machine shops are at a distinct disadvantage. Our readers are facing significant competition, reduced demand and difficulty hiring qualified employees. With increased pressure to provide cost-effective service, the opportunity to gather pertinent information is critical to these businesspeople.
For the past 20 years, Doug Kaufman has covered the various segments of the automotive aftermarket. Those years have taught him something: you need help to cover an industry. Get too close to it and you lose track of the big picture...stay too removed and you miss the detail.
How do you become immersed in the industry yet still have an objective view of its circumstances? It's a challenging question, but one that Engine Builder readers are encouraged to help answer. Brendan Baker, Senior Editor
Brendan Baker has spent the better part of 24 years in the automotive aftermarket and racing industry. He has spent the last 11 years in publishing and has been the Managing Editor of Engine Builder magazine for the past five years until recently being named Senior Editor.
Brendan's aftermarket career started in high school working for an auto part's store in Akron, OH. By the end of high school he was named manager of the store. He has worked many areas of the aftermarket including as a technician and counterman.
Brendan earned his certification as a racing mechanic and has worked for several racing schools and racing teams, working as a lead mechanic, crew chief, engineering assistant and race driver/instructor. Brendan has also owned his own racing team and raced semi-professionally.
Currently he is an avid go-kart racer and enjoys working on his nearly century-old home with his fiancée.

Larry Carley has been Technical Editor of Engine Builder for nearly 25 years. A well-known technical writer who writes for all the Babcox automotive trade publications, Larry has contributed nearly 2,000 feature articles since 1984. Larry's articles for Babcox have earned thirteen writing excellence awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE) and one from Automotive Media Conference (APEX).
Larry has written technical manuals, instructional videos and other technical articles for automotive aftermarket companies including Bosch, BWD Corp., Fel-Pro, Federal-Mogul, GKN, NAPA, Raybestos and Wells. Larry has also written automotive articles for Microsoft's Encarta Encyclopedia.
Larry has been ASE certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in seven areas of automotive expertise, and has worked with ASE in developing technician certification tests.

Doc got his first car (a 1937 Ford slantback Tudor) when he was nine and doubts if his fingernails have been completely clean since. He's worked on everything from Nash and Studebaker to Red Ram Hemi and Rocket Olds engines.
He has and still does build what he writes about in a number of popular magazines (from engines to complete cars and trucks) and at the great enthusiast Web site Webrodder.com. He's been writing a couple of stories a month for the last seven years about vintage engines and has published a book on Big Inch Cadillacs (and has three other books on other vintage engines in the works).
Doc spent about a year-and-a-half each, researching history, parts, machining techniques, assembly issues, performance upgrades, and much more on early Chrysler Hemis, Big Inch Caddys, Nailhead Buicks, Y-Block Fords, Rocket Olds, FE Fords, Stovebolt Chevys and Dodge Hemis (with more to come). In the process, he has found and recorded a tremendous amount of information on each – the kind of information that can make the difference between quality/profit and failures/losses – which he graciously shares with us (and you). He's uncovered sources, learned where to look and who to ask, and helped foster a serious trend toward vintage engines in street rods, customs and trucks.
